Zaha, 20, was seen showing his middle finger to Leeds supporters as Palace played out a 2-2 draw with their Championship rivals at Selhurst Park.

The England international, who signed for the Red Devils in January before being loaned back to Palace for the remainder of the season, said his actions were “unprofessional”.

On that note I also wanted to apologise for the gesture I did towards the Leeds fans in yesterday’s game. Very unprofessional from me

Zaha has played in 35 of Palace’s 37 league games this season, scoring six times for the club he will leave in the summer after a fee in the region of £15 million was agreed in January.

Report: Tony Gonzalez would rejoin Falcons for $7M

It appears Tony Gonzalez is open to continuing his NFL career … on his own terms.

Rosenthal: Top 85 free agents

This year’s free-agent crop lacks star power, but provides immense depth. Gregg Rosenthal ranks available players. More…

Mike Silver of Yahoo! Sports reported Sunday that the Atlanta Falcons now are “cautiously optimistic” the star tight end will be back for a 17th season.

“He will come back if they pay him $7 million and he doesn’t have to do training camp,” one Falcons player familiar with Gonzalez’s thinking said.

Said a team source: “If we offer him the money, he’ll most likely be back for one more. He’ll most likely be looking to miss training camp, though.”

It’s worth nothing that a $7 million salary would be a significant raise for Gonzalez. He’s coming off a season in which he earned $3.9 million in base salary and a $1 million roster bonus.

Offseason Forecast: Falcons
Around The League examines what’s next for all 32 NFL teams in 2013. Chris Wesseling breaks down the Falcons. More …

A high-ranking Falcons official indicated to Silver that Gonzalez’s requests shouldn’t stop a deal from getting done.

“The money is there,” a source close to Gonzalez said. “Working out the days he can miss is the biggest holdup.”

In effect, Gonzalez is looking for a $2 million raise, plus his own personal schedule this summer. These aren’t typical requests for 37-year-old NFL players. Then again, what’s typical about Tony Gonzalez?

UPDATE: USA Today reported later Sunday that Gonzalez is expected to inform the Falcons he intends to return for another season.

Gallagher scores winner as Canadiens rally past Lightning

TAMPA, Fla. — Brendan Gallagher broke a tie with Montreal’s third goal of the third period, and the Eastern Conference-leading Canadiens rallied to beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-3 on Saturday night.

The Canadiens pulled within 3-2 on Brian Gionta‘s power-play goal 3:49 into the third, and Alexei Emelin tied it at 7:33. Gallagher then put the puck past Cedrick Desjardins from in-close to give Montreal a 4-3 lead with 7:57 to play.

Montreal also got a goal from Tomas Plekanec and two assists from Michael Ryder as the Canadiens won for the third time in a five-game trip that has one game remaining.

Steven Stamkos scored his 19th goal, and Martin St. Louis had two assists for the Lightning, who have lost seven of eight. Sami Salo and Ryan Malone had the other Tampa Bay goals.

Stamkos put the Lightning ahead 1-0 when the centre beat Carey Price from the slot off a pass from St. Louis at 5:30 of the second. St. Louis has seven assists and nine points during a six-game point steak.

After Plekanec scored 7:38 into the second, Salo gave Tampa Bay a 2-1 advantage just 37 seconds later. Malone made it 3-1 on a power-play redirection with 7:40 left in the second.

Desjardins, who made his third career start, won two games for the Lightning during the 2010-11 season, including a 4-1 victory over Montreal on Dec. 30, 2010.

NOTES: Desjardins, acquired from the Canadiens in a minor league trade on Feb. 14, was recalled from Syracuse of the AHL on Tuesday. … Montreal D Yannick Weber didn’t play because of a knee injury sustained Thursday during a 4-2 win at Carolina. … Tampa Bay G Mathieu Garon, out with a lower body injury, has resumed skating. … Canadiens D Greg Pateryn, recalled from Hamilton of the AHL on Thursday, made his NHL debut.

Doutzen Kroes: Woman Who Won The Week [PHOTOS]

It doesn’t take much for us to say that Doutzen Kroes won anything

That’s why when we heard she went down to St. Bart’s this week and hung out naked, we went searching through our trophy case for a gold medal. The Dutch Victoria’s Secret Angel has been modeling for about ten years and refuses to get any less hot. And if you’re wondering, most Dutch chicks refuse to get less hot. Yet another reason to go to the Netherlands: get high and hit on some GILFs.

Check out these pictures of her, including the one of her this week down in St. Bart’s (with the blackout bar on her knockout ass).

Steelers release LB James Harrison in cap move (Yahoo! Sports)

PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Steelers have released linebacker James Harrison after the team and the hard-hitting defensive star who played on two Super Bowl champions failed to agree on a new contract.

The Steelers made the announcement Saturday.

Pittsburgh general manager Kevin Colbert said in a statement that ”James has been an integral part of our success during his years in Pittsburgh and has helped us win two Lombardi trophies during that time. We appreciate all of his efforts and wish him the best.”

Harrison was voted AP’s NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2008 after setting a team record with 16 sacks. The five-time Pro Bowl player has the longest interception return in Super Bowl history, a 100-yarder for a score against the Arizona Cardinals in 2009.

Yo, Adrian: Team Mexico KOs U.S. behind duo

By Barry M. Bloom / MLB.com | 3/9/2013 12:45 A.M. ET

PHOENIX — First baseman Adrian Gonzalez hit a two-run homer off R.A. Dickey in the third inning, giving Team Mexico an early four-run lead on the way to a 5-2 victory over Team USA on Friday in the World Baseball Classic in front of a crowd of 44,256 at Chase Field.

Dickey didn’t have it early as the U.S. knuckleballer allowed a pair of runs in each of the first and third innings to a Mexico squad coming off a loss to Italy in Thursday’s opener of Pool D.

The big blow was the homer off Dickey by Gonzalez deep to right-center, a shot that was reviewed and passed muster via instant replay. Gonzalez had three RBIs in the game, the other coming on a first-inning infield grounder.

The outcome sets up a crucial doubleheader on Saturday for the two teams at Chase Field. Mexico plays Canada at 2:30 p.m. ET while the U.S. faces a must-win game against 2-0 Italy at 9 p.m. Both games can be seen on MLB Network and ESPN Deportes.

Italy defeated Canada earlier on Saturday, 14-4, to take control of the pool.

The U.S. could manage only two hits and a run off Mexico right-hander Yovani Gallardo, who last week was nursing a right groin strain that made him questionable for the tournament. Meanwhile, Dickey’s knuckleball wasn’t dancing and sat flat in the zone. He pitched four innings, allowing four runs on six hits.

When U.S. shortstop Jimmy Rollins doubled with two outs in the seventh, it was his 12th hit in Classic play, the most by any American player. Ken Griffey Jr. and David Wright each have 11.

The U.S. has had trouble with Mexico over the years. In 2003, the Americans were knocked out of an Olympic qualifier by Mexico, and three years later they were bumped from the second round of the inaugural Classic. Both losses were by identical scores of 2-1.

In the first round of the Classic in 2006, the U.S. defeated Mexico, 2-0. The two teams were in different pools and did not play in the ’09 Classic.

At 16 wins, Heat still are unimpressed (Yahoo! Sports)

MIAMI (AP) — LeBron James drove to the rim and scored on Miami’s final play, winning a game in memorable fashion and preserving the Heat’s winning streak that has lasted for five weeks.

Still, the Heat are not impressed by, well, themselves these days.

For Miami, 16 playoff wins are the goal – not a 16-game winning streak during the regular season. To the Heat, the regular season is an 82-game tuneup for the challenges that await in April, May and they hope, June – when they’ll try to win the 16 postseason games needed to successfully defend their NBA championship. And that’s why even buzzer-beating wins aren’t sending the Heat locker room into a celebratory frenzy right now.

”We’re enjoying it,” Heat forward Shane Battier said, ”but we have bigger goals.”

James scored with 3.2 seconds left on Wednesday night, lifting Miami to a 97-96 win over the Orlando Magic. Miami’s 16th straight victory gave the Heat a 7 1/2-game lead over the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference standings, an 11 1/2-game cushion over the Atlanta Hawks in the Southeast Division and put the reigning champions in line to clinch their playoff spot on Friday – in just the 60th game of the season.

Miami plays at home against Philadelphia on Friday, and a win would match the 12th-longest winning streak in NBA history.

No, the Heat don’t care much about that, either.

”It really doesn’t affect us,” Heat guard Dwyane Wade said. ”In a sense, we want to win, and we want to win every game we play. The day it comes where our streak gets broken we move on to the next game. Obviously, it is great, when you look back at it one day and say ‘Oh, we won that many games in a row.’ But right now, we are just playing.”

Not just playing – playing better than any team in Heat history, at least statistically.

The previous franchise record for a winning streak was 14 games. During this 16-game run, there have been blowouts, double-overtime thrillers and now buzzer-beating victories. Miami has outscored opponents by an average of 11.5 points per game during the streak, and James and Wade have been nothing short of brilliant throughout the run.

By the numbers, since Feb. 3:

- James is averaging 28.2 points, 7.7 rebounds and 7.6 assists on 61 percent shooting.

- Wade is averaging 24.5 points, 6.2 rebounds and 5.9 assists, with a NBA-leading plus-minus ratio of 203 along the way as well.

”I haven’t brought it up,” said Heat coach Erik Spoelstra, when asked about the streak. ”What we’re trying to do is get better.”

If someone knows that long winning streaks during the season mean little when the stakes are highest, it’s Battier. At Duke, he was on a team that won 32 straight games in one season, and with the Houston Rockets he was part of an epic 22-game winning streak in 2008.

Neither the Blue Devils nor the Rockets won championships in those years.

”It’s hard to win one game in this league, which people don’t realize,” Battier said. ”The amount of preparation, the amount of time you have to study your opponent. Even for the most talented team, so much has to go right for you to win one game.”

The 22-game streak in Houston was one that Battier will forever savor because that Rockets team was just not expected to be great.

And for more than a month, they were beyond great.

”It was one of the best times in my basketball career because it was so bizarre,” Battier said. ”We came out of nowhere. It was a team that was a pretty good team, a playoff team. We weren’t contenders and we just kept winning. … It was a perfect storm.”

Of course, the expectations in Miami are just a tad higher than what those Rockets faced.

Still, there is a residual benefit from being tested in the regular season, especially when a game is on the line in the final seconds. And the pressure of that moment against the Magic, the pressure – if any exists – of the winning streak, it wasn’t enough to thwart the Heat on Wednesday.

”I don’t know if we relish them,” Battier said of late-game, close-game situations. ”There’s a huge benefit because the playoffs are all about executing under stressful situations. And although a regular-season game, even if it’s tight like that can’t replicate the pressure and stress of a playoff game, it’s good to be in those situations just to see how you respond and learn.”

That was the mood in the Heat locker room after Wednesday’s scintillating finish. Another lesson learned, time to move on.

When some players were asked about the potential for things like 20-game winning streaks and putting together one of the longest runs in NBA history, the response was typically no more than a shrug.

”We don’t even talk about it,” James said. ”We don’t really get caught up into the streak at all. What we are trying to do is bigger than a streak.”

Takeo Spikes cut by San Diego Chargers, not retiring

Takeo Spikes has spent 15 long years in the NFL, chasing the dream of participating in the playoffs. If he makes it to 16 seasons, it won’t be for the San Diego Chargers.

Unofficial list of free agents

Check out this unofficial list of NFL restricted and unrestricted free agents for every team, which includes Greg Jennings. More …

A source told NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport that Spikes has been informed of his release, which the team later confirmed Thursday morning.

Spikes commented on his release via Twitter on Thursday morning: “Thank you to the @chargers, Spanos family & fans for the opportunity to represent the organization. I look forward to this upcoming season.”

Spikes plans to play another season, the source told Rapoport, and he stands a good chance at finding a role as a reserve inside linebacker. He wound up starting all 32 games for the Chargers over the last two seasons, which was not part of the team’s original plan for him. Spikes was set to make $3 million in 2013.

“Takeo is a true professional and a class act,” Chargers general manager Tom Telesco said in a statement. “We’re grateful for his many contributions to the Chargers organization, both on and off the field, and wish him nothing but the best in the future.”

Harrison: Team needs in free agency

With free agency set to kick off at 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday, March 12, Elliot Harrison identifies priorities for all 32 NFL teams. More …

The two-time Pro Bowl linebacker, who also has played with the Cincinnati Bengals, Buffalo Bills, Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers since entering the NFL in 1998, has yet to play in a postseason game. Spikes holds the distinction of playing in the most NFL games (219) without a playoff appearance.

Spikes will be a guest on “NFL AM” on Monday; he’s done a lot of media work over the years and figures to transition to the dark side after his playing career is over. He just doesn’t want it to end yet.

Blackhawks suffer key injuries in win over Avs

CHICAGO – Just like that, the Chicago Blackhawks are being tested by injuries.

After star Marian Hossa (upper-body injury) didn’t play on Wednesday night at United Center against the Colorado Avalanche, star left winger Patrick Sharp left the game at 7:49 of the third period after being driven hard into the boards by Ryan O’Byrne.

Sharp left the ice holding his left shoulder and went straight to the dressing room. He did not return. Third line center Andrew Shaw also got hurt at some point in the second period and didn’t come out to start the third.

Hossa was a surprise scratch because of an undisclosed injury that was announced soon after the opening puck drop. The Blackhawks suddenly found themselves with a shortage of forwards up front to finish the game, after Michael Frolik (illness) didn’t play for a second straight game and Brandon Bollig was sent to Rockford of the American Hockey League earlier in the day to make room for defenseman Steve Montador‘s return to the roster.

Daniel Carcillo played Hossa’s right side on the top line, while extra defenseman Sheldon Brookbank – who likely would’ve been scratched – helped fill in for Frolik at right wing on the fourth unit.
